In Pennsylvania alone, nearly 26,000 women die each year from heart disease and stroke. These women are our wives, sisters, mothers, daughters and friends. Less than 60 percent of women recognize heart disease as the number 1 killer  of women. The Philadelphia Go Red for Women movement, sponsored by Macy’s, Merck and Main Line Health, is working to decrease those numbers. Empower women to take charge of their heart, GO RED, and join the eforts to stop heart disease.

wine and dine

Le Castagne and Doorways Ltd. are proud to join forces with La Cucina at Gelso Bianco Cooking School to present a special evening of food and wine from Puglia, Italy on Thursday, February 23 .

For one night only, visiting chef Laura Giordano from Gelso Bianco will join resident chef Michael DeLone in the kitchen at Le Castagne to create a four-course dinner featuring the hearty and rustic cucina povera of the region. The distinctive Pugliese dishes, which showcase exceptionally fresh ingredients and un-fussy preparation, will be paired with with the dynamic and bold wines of the region, such as Primitivo, Negroamaro and Salice Salentino.

In Puglia, the “heel” of the boot, locally sourced seasonal cooking has long been a way of life. The region’s cuisine is based on homemade pastas and cheeses (like the delicious cream-stuffed mozzarella called burrata), as well as fresh vegetables, abundant seafood—Puglia boasts two coastlines, one along the Adriatic and the other on the Ionian sea—and, of course, copious amounts of Apulian olive oil. Two thirds of all of the oil consumed in Italy is produced in Puglia.

Aperitivo + hors d’oeuvres, 6:30pm – 7:30pm; Dinner at 7:30pm.
$70 per person (includes wine). One seating only, space limited.
To RSVP, call 484-416-0473 or email
pugliadinner@metisseevents.com

Chef Laura Giordano has traveled throughout Italy and around the world working in restaurant kitchens and running catering businesses. She has lived in Milan, Perugia, Bologna, Edinburgh and London, but found her true culinary love in the Pugliese kitchen, where she draws on her deep grasp of the timeless local traditions that make the region’s cuisine so distinct. Chef Giordano, her partner Antonello Losito and Kit Burns, president and owner of European villa rental agency Doorways Ltd, will be on hand to chat with guests about Puglia as they enjoy region’s food and learn about what to do and where to stay when visiting.

casanova kitchen

The debate as to whether or not oysters are aphrodisiacs has gone on since that bold soul from ages back first popped one from the ocean and discovered they were delicious. It was rumored that Casanova in his time, consumed as many of 50 a day to keep his libido primed! As for science, if
the zinc and amino acids in oysters add up to a fiendish sex drive, it would take about that many before anything kicked in.

SO, if you’re looking to get the blood pumping this Valentine’s day, come
on by the Oyster House for a salacious prelude. They are offering a 4 course menu that includes roasted oysters and caviar, seared scallops with truffles, and split grilled lobsters for $55. (Casanova-esque platters of 50+ not included)

On Tuesday, February 14th, they will be accepting reservations for all sized parties, so call your lover and then call 215.567.7683.
